Motherhood

I saw this quote on a friend's blog today and realized that it puts into words exactly how it felt to "become a mom."

"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new." ~Rajneesh

Cute picture! It's truly awesome to become a mom. Its cool to how you cant remember you life any other way and wonder what you did with all your time before you became a mom! She's adorable I need to visit her again soon since the last visit was hectic!

I did a some research about Rajneesh. Here is a little bit about the person you are quoting:

Rajneesh's teachings included, "sex is fun, materialism is good and Jesus was a madman.” He also didn’t like Mahatma Gandhi – he thought Gandhi and Hitler were violent torturers. Rajneesh advocated enlightenment through sexual promiscuity. His personal secretary, pled guilty to a number of charges including, plotting to kill Rajneesh's physician with a poison-filled syringe and orchestrating a food poisoning outbreak that sickened more than 750 peopleas part of a plot to take control of Multnomah County in Oregon. Rajneesh was arrested and deported on charges of immigration fraud as part of a plea bargain arrangement with U.S. officials.

Now I'm a little worried about what you read and what websites you visit.

you don't know me, but i stumbled across your blog.

this isn't meant to be rude, but that comment is untrue. so many women do not have their own biological children, or children at all, but they are mothers. in ever. single. sense. of the word, just as much as you are. they aren't to be discounted.

To Soul Vitamins:

It never occurred to me when I read the quote that it could be interpreted to exclude those women who do not or cannot have their own biological children. Our family has first hand experience with adoption and we are very sensitive to those women who cannot or have not had children. Thank you for the reminder that all women are of great worth regardless of their status as "mothers" in the general sense of that word.

of course, we too have had very personal and unfortunately devastating experiences with adoption. (our little girl was taken after the birth father went to court for her) so as we've decided on a somewhat childless life, i still consider myself a 'mother' to many of our friends little one's, etc. the word 'mother' carries so many meanings.

I love this quote. I think there is a time in most womens life when "motherhood" is born. It doesn't matter how or who is involved but there is a moment when that takes place. It doesn't happen to everyone, even some women who give birth to children. This quote makes me think of the saying, "anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad." Same thing with being a mom - which you are going to be AWESOME at! :)
